Smashing Pumpkins, Ane Brun, & M83

I've been a little slow on the updates but here are pics from 4 great shows.
Smashing Pumpkins played two nights at the United Palace Theatre on
November 6th and 7th. Ane Brun played Union Hall on November 12th
and M83 played Webster Hall on November 14th.

MGMT @ Webster Hall

MGMT played a pre Halloween show at Webster Hall dress as a Mariachi Band. The crowd
was into the show from the second the guys came out. The whole crowd on the floor went
crazy during "Kids". MGMT also played a handful of new songs as well as a cover of Cyndi
Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". They keep getting better every time that I see them
and can't wait to see them again. Here are the pics.

Beach House & Crystal Castles

CMJ week is here and I was lucky enough to catch two amazing shows on back to back nights.
First off was Beach House at Le Poisson Rouge (10/22) for the Carpark/Pawtracks CMJ showcase.
Beach House didn't come on till 12:30 am but they were definitely worth the wait. It's the second
time that I got to see them this year and they have been great both times. I'm looking forward to
their next show in December. Crystal Castles played at Webster Hall (10/23) and did not let down
for the second time this year. I normally hate Webster but the crowd was great and Alice was
amazing. I wish I would have been just as close as I was for the Studio B show this summer but
that will have to wait for next time.

Fleet Foxes, MGMT/BECK

So I have been slacking again in posting photos but here are pictures from the Fleet Foxes
show at Grand Ballroom
(10/4) and MGMT/BECK at United Palace (10/10). This is the first
time that I had seen a show at either venue but will going back to United shortly for both
Smashing Pumpkins shows. Grand Ballroom is the most random venue in
the city and United Palace was great, I just needed to be up front. I missed Fleet Foxes
on their first tour of NYC and was glad that I made this show, they are great musicians and
put on a great performance, I just wish that they had more material to play. Beck was getting a
lot of bad criticism for his first two shows in NYC but I thought he played a great set. The new
guitarist is a nice addition to the band. I was a little late for MGMT but they were really good
and I'm looking forward to the show on 10/30. Im also adding both shows in one group
because I didn't take that many at either show.

Bloc Party and Weezer

I have been updating recently but here are some pics from the Bloc Party show @ Roseland
and Weezer @ MSG. I haven't seen Weezer since 04 and it was a great show, everyone
stood the entire show and sang along.Tokyo Police Club opened for Weezer and should
have had a longer set. More shows to come soon.

All Points West Day 2

After having such a great experience at Radiohead the night before I didn't think that
the Saturday show would be as good. Saturday night was my 14th Radiohead show
and it my second favorite show of theirs, there was a great crowed there that all
got there early and held their spots for 8 hours or so. It was an amazing setlist
which included Kid A and ended perfectly with Idioteque. The Lineup for Saturday
included Chromeo, Metric, Animal Collective and Kings of Leon with the only
disappointment being Chromeo. The momentum slowly built up during the day
and by the time Radiohead came on the crowed was in good spirits. I ended up
being about 12 people from the front of the barricade dead center and couldnt
have been more happy after an amazing day. Here are the pics.

All Points West Day 1

So, All Points West is a fancy way of having many bands open up for Radiohead
because if you bought a ticket to this festival you were only there for one band.
That said, I took the Ferry over early on Friday and got a nice spot against the
barricade before the Go Team went on and never left that spot. It was great
getting to be close again instead of a mile back for Lollapalooza. Radiohead's
set was amazing and there were a ton of openers. I didn't think that the Saturday
would be as good but I was mistaken. Either way here are some pics of Radiohead,
Go Team, Spearhead, New Pornographers and Underworld.

Lollapalooza 2008 @ Grant Park, Chicago 8.01-8.03.

Radiohead and NIN headlined Lollapalooza this year and with those two bands headlining
who the hell cares who else plays. There were over 120 bands and it was sold out to capacity
at 75,000 a day. I saw Radiohead at Coachella when it sold out and the crowed was no where
near what it was at Lollapalooza. Every band you saw had an enormous crowed and you had
to get there early if you wanted to be close up. The Raconteurs who had the best performance
of the day (Friday) played right before Radiohead on the other side of the entire park, so I was the
furthest back I have ever been for a Radiohead show but I think seeing Jack do his thing was
totally worth having to be so far back. I knew that I would be seeing Radiohead two more times
in the upcoming week, so it wasnt the biggest loss. The biggest problem for Radiohead besides
the crowed was the soundsystem, which was pretty weak. Even with the sound being an issue
Radiohead still but on an amazing show playing all of In Rainbows and having a little fireworks
show during the set. The best performances of the three day festival were Radiohead, NIN,
the Raconteurs, Spank Rock, MGMT, the Ting Tings and Saul Williams.. The best croweds were
at MGMT and Girl Talk. Overall Lollapalooza was amazing and has won me over as the best festival
in the US. I still love goingto Coachella but everything was better in Chicago. I can't wait for next year.
Sorry for the crappy pictures but I was so far away for everything that I couldnt get a good shot.

She & Him @ Terminal 5

This was the second She & Him show I went to this year and they were even better than the
first time around. They had a few more people in the band this time and the lead
singer of Lavender Diamond was singing back up vocals. Overall it was a great show even though
it was a terrible Terminal 5. If I never go see another show there again, it will be too soon.

Sonic Youth @ Battery Park

Sonic Youth played at Battery Park on the Fourth of July as part of the River to River Festival.
The show was free and was broadcast on WFMU. The show was amazing and the sound
was great.

Ladytron @ Terminal 5

I saw Ladytron for the second time in a month and the show at the Fillmore in
San Francisco was better. Better Venue, Better sound and Better crowd.
Ladytron still put on a great set with Datarock opening.

Crystal Castles, Prefuse73, and Health

3 Days of shows, starting with Crystal Castles @ Studio B on June 19. I had to wait over
2 hours to get into Studio B on Thursday night and it was worth the wait. Alice
live was everything that I was hoping for. Friday night was an early show at the
Whitney Museum with Prefuse 73. Saturday night was Health headlining the
After the Jump Festival @ Music Hall of Williamsburg. All three shows were great but
Crystal Castles had the best performance.

Ladytron @ The Fillmore

I had been looking forward to this show since I planned my trip to California. I had only
seen Ladytron at Coachella a few years back and it was great but I was looking forward to
a full set. Datarock opened and they were really fun. The Fillmore in San Francisco is
my favorite venue and It was so nice being back and getting to eat apples and
a free show poster. The Fillmore East is one of the worst venues that I have been to.

Ariel Pink @ Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco

I finally got to see Ariel Pink when I was in San Francisco. The crowed was great
and had a ton of energy. BOTH is one of my favorite venues of all time. I got to meet
Ariel before the show, he signed my vinyl. Gtimes on May 25, 2008.

She & Him @ Webster Hall

I am really late with updating a handful of shows but better late than never.
Here are some pictures from the She & Him show at Webster Hall on April 22nd.
There were suppose to be two shows at Hiro Ballroom but they were combined
and moved to Webster. Even though Zooey was sick she sounded perfect.
